• This is about the index manager in cPanel

    I assume turning indexing off for all wordpress folders will not negatively affect any plugins or performance. I assume no issues with google crawling the site, etc…

    What’s your practice? Is this just for security? What other security measures can be taken easily and cheaply?

  • I turn indexing off for _all_ folders. I recomend everyone does so.

    The only time you need it on is when you want people to be able to see the contents of the folder, like a download archive.

    That’s what I thought. Thank you.

    Alternatively, put a zero length index.html file in any directory you want to hide the contents of. There’s good reasons to display contents at times, such as a list of similar types of files.

    touch index.html at a command line (assuming it’s unix)
