    Hello,

I’ve created an auction and added the shortcode and it is not displaying the auction when I preview the page. I’ve consulted this forum, and the last post about this does not provide troubleshooting, so I’m writing for help.

Please message me and I’ll send you the URL to the private/testing page.

    Many thanks,
    MissFinan

    Hi,

Could you please email me below at nitesh[at]auctionplugin.net:

    1. Website url and Admin user and passwd. If any issues exist then I would need FTP details for debugging.

    Cheers,
    Nitesh

@nitesh: Sorry but asking for FTP access is not allowed here. Accessing a user’s system like this makes you responsible for that user’s system. If you make changes and something breaks later on as a result, then it is your fault.

Get information, ask for log data, have the user contact you & seek copies of the PHP files. Look but don’t touch. If your code is the problem, then produce a fix and post it here. If the theme or another plugin is at fault, then inform the user, suggest a fix, offer to contact the other developer and/or update your FAQ.

But do not try to make changes to the user’s files in this way. That’s really going too far outside of your area of responsibility.

@nitesh_singh As Esmi replied, do not do that. That’s something that is explained via this link.

It’s a topic that’s come up before, really do not ask for that again.

    Hi Esmi,

Point taken. I do accept that once I have user credentials it is my responsibility for safeguarding user’s website. After debugging, I ask them to change it to avoid any wrong doing.

Also, in my limited experience I’ve found that replicating issues like users is pretty hard as WP setup are generally unique for all of them and with many plugins installed I generally get new issue each time.

Having said that, I’ll try to first kickoff debugging the way you’ve suggested.

    Regards,
    Nitesh

@missfinan? I apologize for derailing your support topic. This will just take a minute.

I’m glad that you’ve gotten the point but honestly: please do not ask for that FTP or admin access again.

I get and appreciate that you are supporting your users and that is very cool. It’s that support from you that makes your free plugin so valuable and you are very active in these forums. Thank you so much for that.

But that’s a line you can’t cross here. It’s too far and users are not the same as paying customers; it’s a different relationship entirely. If you wish to refer your users to your commercial product then please do. Just be aware that pro conversations get closed as pro versions are not supported here.

    Back to missfinan:

I’ve created an auction and added the shortcode and it is not displaying the auction when I preview the page.

Can you provide a link to the site in question? When you use the shortcode does the post show the shortcode or is it broken formatting?

I know that you’d prefer to not share a URL but that can be the best way to solve this problem. If you don’t want to post a URL that’s fine too but it may make it harder to solve this.

Hey guys – I changed a setting and was able to make the auction appear. The setting that I changed was under the settings tab, called Paypal Account Type and I switched it from Live to Sandbox. What is Sandbox btw? Is it a Paypal thing or an Ultimate Auction thing?

    Thanks for your concerns.

And P.S. – It would be most helpful if there was more troubleshooting and help written out on the forum rather than the developer immediately wanting to just go in and look at the specific person’s problem privately – reason being – when the solutions are written out on the forum, less people have to post new topics. I hope my issue helps others out.

    Hi @missfinan,

Your change has nothing to do with the problem you described. Since it is working now, it means that it was a momentarily issue which could have appeared due to browser caching etc.

I understand the concerns put forward by Jan and Esmi but @missfinan, your problem never required any trouble shooting and my intention was to solve your problem asap without much hassle to you and me with back and forth answers puzzling both of us.

@nitesh – I hear what you’re saying. So, should it happen again, I’m not sure what to do? Since it doesn’t seem safe to share my site info according to the rules.

Is there something I can do on my end to answer the questions you may have?
