Short Meta Descriptions, Google (7 posts)

I am completely lost with where the problem might lie right now. About a week ago I started getting Short Meta Description warnings from Google. All my Meta Descriptions are over 165 characters and under 210. They were completely fine until now. At first I thought there was a problem with Headspace and swapped that out for Ultimate SEO Plugin, rewrote everything and have waited a week to see some results.

Unfortunately it is only getting worse.

What do I do? Id there something in my theme or WordPress 2.91 that would have an effect to what Google is able to read?

    My website is http://www.fidoloves.com

    Thank you,
    Jay

you have the meta description twice

    <meta
name="description" content="A Guide to Living in Dog Friendly Boston" />

and a few lines further down:

    <meta
name="description" content="Boston is very dog-friendly, here is a guide of where dogs are allowed in Boston. Fido Loves reviews places to go with your dog such as dog parks, veterinarians, boutiques, trainers and pet friendly real estate and apartment rentals" />

check header.php for an existing meta tag - there might be a conflict with a seo plugin./ or some settings?

    edit:
that is on the home page.

in blog i can ony find the short meta tag description.

All of the pages on your site that I checked contained a very short meta-description that was identical on every page:

<meta name="description" content="A Guide to Living in Dog Friendly Boston" />

You might want to look at the all In One SEO plugin instead of your current plugin.

thanks for looking at that. I will switch it out tonight. I do not know why this is happening.

there was a line of code in the theme using my website tagline as content description for content. I removed it and it now displays one Meta Description.

I am going to let the dust settle then revisit which SEO plugin I should be using. all in one, headspace, ultimate?

Thanks for looking at this quickly, it would not be possible for me to have this website if it were not for the wordpress community.

I am still having problems with my meta description tags, google is still penalizing me for short tags. The Tags are at 200 characters, well above Googles standards.

I am now only showing one meta description but it is buried below other lines of code when you "view source my website.

If anyone has a moment could you take a peek. I am beyond frustrated at this point. I have changed out the SEO plug in enough times to know there needs to be a problem somewhere else.
