Since updating the plug in the other day when we use the “Notify Users About This Post” feature it no longer emails all of the post contents, as it used to do. Is there a short code we can use so the entire post content will be sent in the email when using th “Notify Users About This Post” feature?

    Thank you!

This part of the plugin hasn’t changed. However, if the post you want to send out a notification for has an “Excerpt” defined the plugin will use it instead of the full post content. This has been the behavior for a long time, before I got involved in the development.

Thanks for your prompt reply, really appreciate it!!!

For sure I’m NOT a computer/website guy, I’m lost at level above the very basic. Your reply makes perfect sense to me, however I’ve searched our website settings and can’t find where to change the setting so “use post excerpt” isn’t defined. Hopefully you can provide some guidance?

    Thank you!!

On the Post Editing screen below the actual post editor (where you enter the content of your post) is another section labeled “Excerpt”. It may be closed, if it is, then use the arrow on the right hand side of the section to expand it.

If you don’t see the Excerpt section at all, check your screen options (upper right hand corner of the screen, next to Help under the Admin bar) – click on the arrow to expand the screen options and make sure “Excerpt” is checked. If it isn’t, the excerpt section won’t be visible.

The “Excerpt” section was not checked in my screen options, I checked it, now “Excerpt” shows up below the post as you mentioned. When I expand it a box opens where I can enter text etc, nothing more, am I overlooking something???

Below is what my “Default Notification Body” looks like in the emails users setting area. Seems to me there used to be something (a short code??)above the post and blog links, maybe my memory is failing me???

Again thanks for your help and guidance!!!

Looks like your template (what Email-Users to generate the content of the email) has been modified from the default. There is a setting for it on the settings page. You can restore it to the default however, that will also reset anything else you may have tweaked.

The default content looks like this:

    Hello,

I would like to bring your attention on a new post published on the blog. Details of the post follow; I hope you will find it interesting.

    Best regards,

    %FROM_NAME%

    %POST_TITLE%

    %POST_EXCERPT%

    Link to the post: %POST_URL%
    Link to %BLOG_NAME%: %BLOG_URL%

I have also added a new substitution keyword (%POST_CONTENT%) so you can include the entire post if desired. It is available in the 4.5.3 beta version I am working on. You can find it here.

    Appreciate your patience and assistance.

In respect to the default template it’s not really what we’re seeking to use. I can restore the default template and the plug in sends the default message as it should.

We’d like the entire post content to be emailed when using the “Notify Users About This Post” feature. Until this past weekend it was capturing and emailing the entire post, unfortunately now it’s not. Hopefully the release of 4.5.3 will correct the problem for us? Do you have an idea of when you’ll release the new version?

    Thanks

    I must be missing something.

If the default template isn’t what you want, you can edit the text and use the keywords to achieve the result you want. If your posts don’t have excerpts defined, then Email Users will substitute the full post content for the %POST_EXCERPT% keyword.

If your template contained nothing but the %POST_EXCERPT% keyword and you don’t define an excerpt for your post, then Notify Users about this Post will do what you want.

As for 4.5.3, I still need to fix this one issue and I’d like to get some feedback on whether the problem with the TO address is resolved but I will probably release it in the next day or so if I don’t hear anything back.

All I can say is it ain’t easy being me!!!

Our issue is resolved. What I was overlooking was the fact that I needed %POST-EXCERPT% in the default template so the plug in would pick up the entire post content. When editing the default template I thought %POST-EXCERPT% should be removed instead of left in the template. I tried all sorts of %POST_CONTENT% %CONTENT% etc etc variations with no luck. My wayward thinking was that by leaving %POST_EXCERPT% in the default template it would only pick up an excerpt of the post not the entire post. Now I understand that if you don’t denote an excerpt the plug in will pick up the entire post. Hopefully this all makes sense to ya???

Again, thanks MUCH for your patience and guidance!!!

No problem, glad you got it working.
