I have a wp multisite network running. the existing site (the one initially created before creating the network) is on the domain root by default ('/') . I can also succesfully create another.

Wat i want is to have the initial site on the '/en/'-subdir and other sites for other languages (i.e. '/nl/').
(the '/en/' being an alias for '/' would also suffice.)

However when i change the wp-config setting PATH_CURRENT_SITE to '/en/' (before or after network setup) i get a db connection error when loading the page.

I have tried reinstalling about 5 times now and i have no idea, how this is supposed to be set up?

Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation?

  2. The most simple way would be make your main site a placeholder, and have /en/ be an actual subsite.

So make a site /en/ and put all of those posts there. And your main site (/) will just have a 'welcome' page.

Thanks for your response Mika, that's a good suggestion.
I would also like to have posts on my welcome page and have these translated. But now that i think of it, i could also use the '/' site to redirect visitors to the right site. Im going to give that a try!

So, do I understand it correctly that the initial site being on the root is mandatory?

If you want your subsites to be /en and /nl and so on, yes.
