Setting up WordPress alongside a Live Site (3 posts)

    Hello.

I am new to WordPress. I am a business owner running 3 separate DBAs and I am about to convert 2 of the sites to WordPress. My sites are very busy and an integral part of the business, so I cannot afford to remove the current sites while I work on learning and configuring WordPress. I am assuming that I can do an installation, rename the index.php to something else, like index2.php and work on it until I am happy. Since I have no experience with WordPress, I just wanted to make sure before I get myself in some sort of mess.

    :)

    Thanks

Just to keep things clean, I would suggest installing WP in a subdirectory on your site, get it the way you want, then when you are ready you can either move it to root or, leave it in the subdirectory and make it look like it's in root, or redirect your root to the WP subdirectory.

See how to move it to root or redirect root to a subdirectory in videos on this site: http://educhalk.org [and, notice the root on that site redirects to a wp subdirectory] or leave it in a subdirectory and make it look like it's in root by following these directions:

Great! I was thinking of that as well but was afraid that it would cause more issues when I moved it. Thanks for the link!
