I have followed the instructions for a static front page but it is coming up with a blog reply - see http://www.themoderndaywizard.com/

I have only one page - home and in settings/reading I have selected static page and Front page as Home. Posts page is blank.

I have set permalinks to custome structure: /%postname%

How do I get rid of the blog reply?

Go into the pages section of the dashboard, use the small 'screen options' tag top left to drop down some options. Deselect the comments check box and see if that helps.

I have unchecked all three options but that has not changed anything

What default template are you using?

Have you checked the settings under settings > Discussion > Allow people to post... bit?

Sorry the screen options box is to do with the view in the admin screen, not the main page.

Go to the Pages menu, select the page and then use Quick edit. Is the comments box checked?

    Duh.. simple as that?

Thanks a lot for your help. You know I've been using WP for a while but there are so many places for settings that I still get caught out.

It used to be that anything on quick edit was also on edit if I remember correctly, but I couldn't say when that changed.

Don't make it easy do they!
