I’m having some issues getting WP to connect with the MySQL database on my server. As far as I know, the database/user name is right and the password is dead on. It won’t connect up. Can anyone give me some hints?

  • There are a couple different errors wordpress will give you when it can’t connect to the database. Paste the error here.

    Here is what it says…

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

I have checked the server and it is running. However, I’m not sure about the host name. I assume it would be localhost. My hosting company is godaddy

I have set up wordpress multiple times before, but I have never had this many issues with it.

Godaddy doesn’t use localhost for the DB host value. You’ll have to find it though your hosting control panel. Here is more info about it.
