Hello all, just over a week ago I installed WordPress for the first time, and it was literally a 5 minute job. Bravo! I've now come to the point where I'd like to update plugins thru FTP.

I host WordPress on my own server, and I also have an FTP server installed. I'd like to set up a WordPress ftp account, but I'm wondering what I should set as home directory for this user? Is it the root of the WordPress blog, or one of the sub folders?

You don't need to setup an FTP server to update your plugins. Just visit Tools->Update and select the plugins to update.

Pardon me, but when I go to Tools->Update it asks for Connection Information with hostname information etc. Isn't this my FTP server, or is it my blog address/login info I need to provide?

    Yes that's correct...sorry missed that.

Not sure if it matters what the 'home directory for this user" is as WordPress would place the files where it needs to.

You might also find this plugin use for info on available transports:
