Setting the description used by new blogs (5 posts)

    Hi,

I am running a multisite network here: http://skate-right.com.

Does anyone know how to set the description that new sites/blogs use?
So I can set a custom description rather than the standard "Just another [sitename] site".

    Thanks...

You get that information calling get_bloginfo('description')'. So you might code a custom function to set such data.

    API: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_bloginfo

Thanks, get_bloginfo('description') calls from the wp_options table from the blogdescription field. When using multisite/network a new wp_2_options table is created where the 2 is the blog ID.

Any idea how I could code a function that would set the blogdescription field when the new wp_options table is created?

WordPress is based on Hooks, Actions and Filters. You can get the big picture on its API docs:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API

On this case you might code an action triggered when a site is created, or when the theme for the new site is setup. But you already have examples using filters:

  5. Or if you don't want to code it, start with this plugin:
