Hueman
[resolved] Set Search Results to Two Columns (5 posts)

    I want my search results to show up in two columns, because the resulting pictures are too big.

    I am not talking about the sidebar layout, but rather the search results themselves. I would like either to have the search results split into two columns or have the results display at 50% width of the default.

    I understand that the search.php file in the hueman theme controls search output, I just don't know how to change that to two columns.

    Any help appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Matthew

    When you say two colmns, do you mean 4 entries per row? That would be a tight fit. Or do you use some custom css to only have it as one-column on the site and want it to be two-column, which is standard, for search?

    For 50% on search only, do:

    .search .post-list .post,
    .search .post-list .page { width: 50%; }

    That didn’t work, however I found that by editing this code:

    .post-thumbnail { width: 60%; -webkit-transition: all 1s ease; -moz-transition: all 1s ease; transition: all 1s ease; }
    .post-thumbnail img { display: block; width: 60%; height: auto; }

    I was able to reduce the size of the search results so that the search images don’t appear so massive on large monitors.

    If I can’t get the search results split, I will definitely just reduce them by 60-50% of their holding container.

    I think I may be describing this wrong. The site I built uses the Primary bar only. So the site has the primary side-bar and the content container. (I’m guessing that makes the whole site fall under two columns.) When I type something into the search bar and it sends me to the search results page it gives me the standard search results, but the image thumbnails are full width and take up so much of the content container part of the page. I would like to have the search results split into two columns within the content container so that:

    1 I display more results per page.

    2 Set Image thumbnails so they are not full width.

    If there is not an easy way to split the search results, no worries I'll just go with reducing the width.

    By the way I really love this theme; it has taken it a lot of work to bend it to be the site I wanted, but it is a fantastic foundation.

    Thanks for your help.

    If you use just one sidebar, have you set Theme Options > Styling > Website Max-width to 1120px as recommended? That way the content will have same size for large screens as the two sidebar layout.

    I had not, however I like having a wide site so I will see. I went ahead and reduced the search images with the code I listed before.

    I'm gonna close this topic now. Thanks for the great theme man.
