[resolved] Set Featured Image via URL (18 posts)

Hey, I'd like to setup featured images on a site. However, when I go to the post --> set featured image --> From URL then there is no "Use as featured image" button. I have searched online and I haven't found a solution to this problem. I'd like to load the featured pics for posts from Flickr.

    Thanks.

    Hi.
I checked on my WP test blog and indeed it does not seem to be possible to set featured images from URL.
I have asked about it in the wp-forums email list just in case. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something.
    Cheers!

  3. There's a Trac ticket covering this issue: #19396.

Thanks guys! I'll keep an eye on the ticket.

@DrewAPicture - I'm sure your aware, but just to make sure -- you have a bunch of notices/errors on your site. :-)

  5. Yep, WP_DEBUG was on, but thanks.

This has bothered me for some time. Would love to see progress in using a URL to import into a Featured image.

just to add another bothered soul to the thread - I guess still not resolved?

in the meantime, I see no other option than to upload images to the media library, which is a pain.

I am also unable to Set Featured Image in WordPress 3.5, Media Library Contents are not visible in the Set Featured Window and While Uploading a Picture an Error comes, but the Uploaded pic is visible in the media Library.

Please help me to resolve it.

    Hey Mike,

I assume you are the developer of this plugin?

Any chance of a test-drive in exchange for a review on my site (Live Free Die Travelling)

    Cheers,
    Paul

Your Plugin looks good, not to be ungrateful but I was hoping it would work to use the image without putting it into the media library like when you use a url to insert a post image, therefore saving on storage and bandwidth for the host server... it is a work/time saver though!

Same as me. I'm also finding the solution for Setting the Featured Image via URL instead of uploading image into host server and use it. Save bandwidth and better for backup.

The theme I was using Magazine Basic version 2.7.9 worked great for doing this with Flickr images. It simply used the first image in the post at the featured image, which also meant if you composed your posts using something like Live Writer rather than in WP directly, the feature image features still worked.

With over 1500 posts on my blog, I didn't want to have to manually assign a feature image to my back catalogue of posts and this worked wonderfully.

However, the latest up theme upgrade (to version 3.0) removed this functionality (since it introduces a performance hit.)

(Sorry about the rant - but help would be appreciated!)

Does anyone have a solution? At this point I'm even willing to do the manual fixes if I have to.
