Server error: installing WP Multisite on localhost under XAMPP (2 posts)

    I followed the guidance in the Codex for creating a network. I'm in the early stages of creating a development multisite set up on localhost on a Mac using XAMPP.

    Both XAMPP and WP are installed, and I got through the 'creating a network' process to the end where it asks you to login again, having cleared the cache and cookies. Then I get this message:

    Server error!
    The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script.
    If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
    Error 500

    I've followed a number of threads but can't find a clear solution to this problem.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Try re-installing WordPress network on a new database and see if the problem persists. Remember use the sub-directory option and not the sub-domain install.
