Creating an about page (or any page without comments)

    All I wanted was an about page without comments. I disabled them…then the system proceeded to give me links to the about page for every single post. I then deleted the about page to see if that would help, but instead the links still point to an about page that no longer exists, thus resulting in a 404 page for everything, now I fixed the permalink area back to the original way that posts would be.

    How can I make an about me page without comments so it looks more professional…just like being on a website, you wouldn’t expect there to be a comment section for just things that are meant to be more for information.

    Any info would be very appreciated!

    Ok, I think I found a way around it with this plug-in: http://wordpress.org/plugins/no-page-comment/

    But still…someone please tell me if there is a way to do this without having to resort to plug-ins? Like, am I missing a setting somewhere? Is there a way to just disable comments on pages?

    There’s only one way to disable comments on pages, and that is through the individual discussion settings. On each post or page, there’s a discussion settings box. If you don’t see it, you will need to turn it on by clicking on Screen Options in the top right. From there you can manually turn on/off the comments and trackbacks (which seems to be the issue you are having) for a page.

    I wrote the No Page Comment plugin to make it so the comments are enabled/disabled when creating a new post or page, as there is no way to do this without using a plugin (or writing a function to do the same thing as the plugin and placing it in your theme’s functions file).

    Seth – yes, thank you for developing the plugin. I have been using it since I made this post. I just want comments turned off for pages, so they look more like webpages, not blog posts. Works great!
