Separate permalinking for pages and posts (4 posts)

    Would it be at all possible to have separate permalinking abilities for pages and posts? The reason I ask is that I would like for my pages to be permalinked, but not my posts.

    The answer is not "no", it's "you have to build it into your site yourself." Yes, I know that means "no" to some folks. Just want to clarify.

    The real workhorse for custom permalinks is the rewrite rules of your .htaccess. If you generate these in WordPress but then revert back to the default query-type permalinks, if you retain the rewrite rules in .htaccess you can still use cruft-free links. However, WordPress won't know anything about them, and you'd be required to add links to your Pages manually (instead of making use of wp_list_pages() and the like).
