Separate Blog Page-Posts Not Appearing

Hello,

I have my Home page set to have circles linking to Pages and not Posts. I found the instructions here and they worked fine. I’m using a child theme. I’d like one of my pages to act as a typical blog page. I’m using a child theme.

Currently my front page is set to display: “Your Latest Posts” in the Reading dashboard. With this setting my Blog page looks like all my other pages but no blog posts appear.

I’ve tried setting the front page to “Static Page” and having the Posts Page set to my blog page. I leave the Front page set to nothing because for whatever reason my home page isn’t a choice. With these settings my Home page appears with circles still but when you click on the circle to take you to the Blog page, that also appears with the same circles as the home page and no posts appear.

I read one of the threads that partially described setting up a custom page template but the instructions weren’t complete so I ran into a dead end. I also looked in the Codex for custom page templates and could only get so far.

Has anyone else been able to set things up like I’m trying to do?
