• This is my first website so I am learning all the time. I’ve been building my site (http://www.greendogwalking.co.uk) since November 2013 and have been learning all the way.

It’s come to the point now where I’m pretty much happy with the design of my site but I need to get the SEO sorted. It seems ridiculous but when you type into Google “green dog walking” .. I come up on page 3! There are no other companies called Green Dog Walking, it only refers to sites such as facebook.com/greendogwalks and so on..

I’ve gone through all the obvious things such as :
    – making sure the “discourage search engines” button isn’t checked
    – I’ve submitted a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools
    – I’ve used SEO by Yoast to make pages that should be perfect for SEO such as http://www.greendogwalking.co.uk/green-dog-walking
    – I’ve made sure my site isn’t blacklisted.

I just can’t work out why I’m not ranking when that’s my websites name? I’ve given it enough time now to get ranked but it’s still not doing anything and this is going to really slow down my business start up once my adwords has run out.

Any help at all would be really, really appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Joe

If only SEO were so easy that all you had to do was pick a site name and you’d be guaranteed a page one listing whenever anybody typed in that name.

Search engines aren’t so unsophisticated that they simply prioritise the page or site which has the closest linguistic match to the search terms typed in. To cut a long story very short, many pages have been around for much longer than yours which, from the perspective of search engine algorithms, are much more closely associated with terms such as “green dog walking” than your site (not to mention cognate terms like “green dog walkers” or “green dog walks” and other related search queries like “dog walking” or “dog walkers”).

You should also consider the fact that listings on search engines like Google are personalised in any case, which means that your site will appear on different pages for different people. For instance, you’re on page 11 when I enter the words “green dog walking” into Google.

SEO improves the visibility of your website and increases the chances that your site will be indexed well by search engines. It’s not some miracle technique that guarantees page one listings.

After EMD update – having exact match keyword in URL has little to no value in search rankings, You need to build some quality links for the particular keyword and its variations.

The websites you are talking about are the old giants having huge domain authority, You need to put some efforts in order to rank above those websites.
