   I understand that all the plugins are under a GPL license. Does this mean that I can create a theme and include a plugin inside the theme via the functions file and distribute in a marketplace? Or is this against the license?

   A good example would be this. Say I created a portfolio theme and included a slideshow gallery plugin inside the functions file. Then took this theme and sold it on say Theme Forest. Would I get in trouble with the plugin developer for profiting from his plugin?

   I have some great ideas and don't want to step on any ones toes. WordPress has been great to me as well as the community. If you could help that would be great. Thank you!

   Incorrect. Check the license for each plugin.
