Selectable post criteria that when true will post an image or list to a POST

I’m working on a personal project that will be used to list and review my subjects.

For IP paranoia I will leave out what it is I’m working on, but instead use an example of reviewing Movies.

All of the subjects will fulfil one or more criteria that will be standard across the whole site. For these criteria I want to have a visual representation or list with Yes / No.

Let’s say I’m reviewing movies and the movie is both comedy and a drama, and it’s rated M15+.

I’m wanting a simple solution so that I can check boxes in the post and it will either display set images (a smilie face for comedy, something for drama, and the M15+ symbol) or have a set list, and select yes/no for the criteria which will then show up on the post.

I’ve thought of several ways to do this but I’m throwing it out there for the best solution. I’ve thought of custom fields however I think this could get messy – I’m not confident enough in my PHP ability to write a plug in for this purpose – so I’m wondering if anyone has any other ideas. Others will be using the CMS so I’m hoping that it could be as simple as check boxes and will pull images from a set directory and place them into a set div.
