• Long story short –
I was trying to fix a javascript deferred problem so I installed a plugin called “Javascript to Footer”. It didn’t do what it was supposed to so I uninstalled it. Right after that everything went batty. Now when I try to install a new plugin, I get a 404 error.

I tried disabling your plugin because it seems like the likely culprit and I’m seeing some admin related 404 redirects that I have no idea on how to remove. I tried clearing all 404 errors but the admin problem remains. Any ideas on how I can deactivate your plugin and remove ALL redirects? If I remove your plugin, will any of the previously gathered redirects also disappear?

I suspect your plugin saw a admin link that no longer existed then tried to make it’s own association, which is mucking everything up.

    Any advice is welcomed!

    TIA!

The plugin doesn’t make any links. It does not alter your wordpress install. I works only on 404 errors. When it sees one, it decides which of your existing pages is the closet match to the page you were looking for and then redirects to the page.

First uninstall the permalink finder plugin so it doesn’t confuse you with redirects.

Go to settings – permalinks and change your permalink structure to something other than what it currently is, and then save. Then set it back the way it was. This is an odd fix that actually works. It rewrites your htaccess file and changes the way permalinks work, fixing many errors.

If everything is back to normal, you may not even need the permalink finder plugin. If you still have people linking to your site using the wrong link then you can reinstall the permalink finder.
