I am just in the planning stages of our website and hoping to use WordPress to create my site. I would like to have most of the site open for public viewing but then have a page where people can fill out a form (with fields I designate) to be granted access to a secure area. Is that possible in WordPress?
I've seen some posts about password protecting pages but I really want to be the one who grants access so I can gather data from the people needing access rather than letting just anyone create a password and enter the area.
Once in the secure area, is it possible to have a forum where those who can enter, can start discussions and comment on discussions?

    Thanks!

you can use plugins for that. For example, see if plugin like this can work for you: http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-members/

WP plugins repo has hundreds of plugins. Try searching the repo for more.

This looks like it might work! I can put it on 1 or 2 pages, right? And keep the rest of the pages open to the public?

please read the description on the plugins page. Then try and see if can do what you intend it to do.
