Searching Pages, rather than Posts (11 posts)

I've been using TextPattern and Drupal for some time, and keep a very keen eye on WordPress. I really do want to get using it and am running it now to see if I can migrate to WP. My sites are mainly CMS, rather than Blog based.

The big sticking point, though, is that I can't use Search to search in Pages. I know from the bug record that this was planned, and will not be fixed until Search is re-vamped.

Can I ask when Search might be re-vamped, or whether it would be possible to amend Search to include Pages? That would be a brilliant boost.

since this doesn't look to be a priority for the developers, plugin writers?

Yes: any information about the internals of current search and how it relates to Pages would be appreciated. I, too, would be glad to help on anything within my capabilities: and a bit further.

    ok, I found this: http://weblogtoolscollection.com/archives/2004/06/07/advanced-contextual-search-for-wordpress/

But... works for pre 1.5. So, I am rewriting the setup and query to a) install for 1.5 ::DONE:: and b) rewrite query to search multiple tables. Out of respect, I will release back to the original authors and let them post, but the good news is, an answer is on the way!

Update: The install is done. Working out query bugs now.

Ta Da! FULLTEXT search can be found here. Compatible with 1.5. You can use the above to search in posts and it does not ignore pages.

I installed it and so far, it seems to be working well. A couple of items though. The next link at the bottom of the results page is linked to search-beta.php instead of search.php

I had to give relative links to the search page as I have it setup a bit different as part of my theme....

not too sure if it is stripping html tags properly though....

Ok, fixed the search-beta issue. Thanks. Looking into the html issue. Can you describe the problem?

it looks like when i converted my post tables to 1.5 it carried over some html tags in the excerpt...

After I edit them out it appears fine.

Now if I can just get BAStats to find these keywords....
