Searching for accented vowels (4 posts)

    Hi,

I have a WP site that's in English, but contains many accented vowel characters, such as é or ú and many users don't have these on their keyboards.

The problem is that when people search I want those accented vowels to show up, even if they don't search for them. I think this is the way many search engines work.

So if I search for "the" I want it to return results for "the" AND "thé" - thereby forgiving the user from having to type in the accent. Otherwise the user either needs to know the keystroke combo (under windows it's Alt+0233 for é) or the html code: & eacute; (no space in that or else it would show up here) for é - both very unwieldy and unfriendly options.

    Suggestions?`

Accent grave and acut is normally entered from the keyboard hitting the accent key first and then the wovel in question, which I do here :
    è é
    ^
There's normally no need for the more elaborate numbered character codes.

Maybe we're using different keyboards. On my Swedish keyboard I have a key to the right in line with the number keys with one accent acut and one accent grave. Pressing this key with or without Shift, seemingly gives nothing, but at the press of any other key it gives the next letter an accent.

Moderator please: I know this is not a WP qestion ;)
