Search results will not open to read more

I am beginning an extensive knowledge base site where search functionality will be essential.
In testing the search function, the issue I am having is when search returns a post containing my search term, clicking on the headline or Read More doesn’t open the post, rather it takes me to the top of the page where the post resides.
How can I open (expand fully) a post directly after locating it using search, or simply have the results returned fully expanded?
