[resolved] search bar and comments question (6 posts)

    Hello fine folks,
    I'm working on a blog for a client and for the LIFE of me, I cannot get the search button and bar in the sidebar to align. I've done all I can think of. I'm sure it's something small that I'm missing/not doing...

    I also am having a hard time removing the text "comments off" under posts. The client does not want that there...any suggestions?

    The blog is http://www.heritage-montessori-blog.com

    Thanks bunches!

    Align in what way?

    I'd also suggest that you start by sorting out the markup errors. Then move onto the CSS errors.

    Thanks Esmi. I have started on the errors - thanks for the reminder that I need to go back. I'm picking this up again after a little break.

    By align I mean they want the bar and the button to be the same size.

    re 'comments off:

    edit index.php of your theme, find:

    <p class="info"><?php comments_popup_link('Comment »', '1 comment »', '% comments »'); ?> <strong>|</strong> <?php the_category(', ') ?></p>

    comments_popup_link() has actually five parameter, the last being the text that is shown if the commments are closed:

    to get rid of the | as well, try to modify the above into:

    <p class="info"><?php comments_popup_link('Comment » <strong>|</strong>', '1 comment » <strong>|</strong>', '% comments » <strong>|</strong>', '', ''); ?><?php the_category(', ') ?></p>

    untested

    By align I mean they want the bar and the button to be the same size.

    Try:

    #sidebar #searchform input {width:100px;}
    #sidebar #searchform input[type=submit] {margin: 0 auto;}

    Comments are now off, and my search looks a lot better with just a little tweaking.
    Thanks so much!
