    I'm using wp 2.7 and the checkboxes for the screen options are not saving so every time I log back in all the screen options are back. I have another wordpress installation where this doesn't happen so im not sure why this is.

    Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this?

    God I wish someone would answer this at WordPress. I have had this problem ever since upgrading and for the life of me can not figure out how to save screen options.

    Most likely cause of this is that your server is blocking AJAX calls. mod_security has been known to do this. Might try disabling mod_security. Read step 6 here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/164999

    Cool, how did I finally get a response, was it the other post..? Thanks Otto... So, my server is not blocking ajax calls - as evidenced by the polls on my site - ReelSEO dot com - look on sidebar. Any other ideas? I went through everything in your post, clearing js-cache, adding to htaccess, etc... still not saving any screen options.

    Problem persists. Ajax doesn't seem to be the problem.

    It's a quirky one, mine was previously doing this, then when I upgraded to 2.7.1 it remembered which buttons were checked so i thought it was fine. Now (still on 2.7.1) I want to remove another panel, and it won't do it! It also won't remember the positions of panels...

    Cross Reffing;

    WP-O-Matic did this. If you de-activate it, change all the pages you want to change, then re-activate it you'll be sorted.

    WP-O-Matic is not the problem. I don't have this plugin and never had. There is problem/bug with screen options since wp 2.7. It can't remember position properly. When I drag panels from right side to the left side and reload the page, the panels are back. Also switch to one column layout doesn't work properly. One of the panels always dissapear. Mostly the panel with Categories in my case. This is definitelly BUG and it's hard to find in trac.wordpress.org. Does anybody know something more about this issue?

    edit: I found something. Looks like problem with plugin? http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/10155
    I'll check that later.

    For me, anyway, deactivating WP-O-Matic did the trick. Considering how well it works (not at all) and how slim my chances are for resolving any issues with it (by all accounts, verrrry slim), no big loss.

    I changed my Screen Options settings to a 1 column layout and could not get the two column layout back. I figured my issue was related to these Screen Options not saving but after intense investigation I noticed that the options were in fact saving, and that the layout was adjusting for two columns HOWEVER the new feature that allows for drap n drop panels kept all my panels in the larger column. By simply dragging them over to the sidebar I restored by 2 column layout.

    Also having this problem with Screen Options not saving. I don't have WP-O-Matic on my system so the problem can't just be that. Really wish WordPress would deal with this bug.

    I just did some testing and found a solution: Remove one of your screen options, then exit the edit screen, then re enter the edit screen and try choosing the new option you want. Worked for me.
