"Screen Options" button missing only in "Appearance" section (8 posts)

I upgraded to 2.8.1 and i see the "screen options" button virtually everywhere. But when i click on the "Appearance" tab, or any of the sub pages under "Appearance", the "Screen Options" button is missing. And the syntax highlighting is disabled, so I have no idea how to enable it without using the options button.

Any ideas? I disabled all plugins and it still won't work, so i doubt it's relaeted to my plugins.

    thanks for any help.

    Hi,

upload wp-admin and wp-includes folders again and it is will not resolve then redo the upgrade and upgrade your wordpress blog manually..

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

I tried it again, with a fresh install of 2.8.1, and then upgraded to 2.8.2, still no luck. Am I the only one with this issue? I can't find anything about it online.

Should the "screen options" button be visible on the appearance page by default, or is there something i need to do to enable it?

I upgraded to 2.8.2 today and my screen options button is now missing and syntax highlighting disabled, which I really don't want anyway.

Whether related or not, I can't figure out why my notepad++ files are converted to all one continuous wrapped line once I upload them now.

Still don't get it. with 2.8.2 and 2.8.3, I've still NEVER seen the screen options button on the appearance page, and I've never seen syntax highlighting working. I've:

    1. installed 2.8.3 from scratch after downloading it from wordpress.org
    2. installed it with a one-click install on dreamhost

no matter, I can't get it to work. What am I missing?

I was facing the similar problem - no screen options in new posts, permanent links were not working (and "no posts found" problem occured when permanent links were different from default).
I tried to make a local copy in virtual machine - everything was OK. Replaced files, repaired database.

Problem was different: I found malicious .htaccess directives in top directory redirecting part of PHP URLs somewhere.

Once I deleted all unwanted stuff, it works like a charm.
