Support » Fixing WordPress » saving pages fails randomly and deletes all line breakes

  • Hi,

I have hosted my wordpress site for over a year. However since the update from (whatever was up to date a few months ago) to 3.3.1 I experience a few problems when saving edited pages (I don’t use articles).

There doesn’t seem to be a real pattern. Sometimes it will not save at all, the editing page will just reload – a new saved version would be created, but in fact it’s identical to the one before (eg all I wrote since then is gone). I noticed when I add some hmtl, say a style tag to a table, it’ll sometimes not save it at the first attempt (thus deleting it) but when I enter it again straight afterwards it’ll work properly. I cannot confirm if this has anything to do with me editing in html or WYSIWYG mode.

More often it will save properly but the (then) reloaded editor will delete all line breaks from my text. However the saved page displays properly with the new content on my webpage. This seems to happen mostly when I switch to WYSIWYG mode, or when opening a page.

And I have even had the following happen to me (very rarely): I use the qTranslate plugin to display my pages alternatively in German or English. Once or twice when I edited a page it just copied the English text into the German editing field thus deleting the German version.

Is my database nuts? Does anyone know how I might get it to work properly again?

    Thanks a lot.

OK – something occurred to me and in fact I have found the culprit: qTranslate (v 2.5.28) messes with WordPress 3.1.1 in many ways. There’s a number of bug reports on the qTranslate forum though no confirmation from the maintainer yet.

Anyway, sorry to bother you. Thanks for wanting to help, and I hope all my words may help someone looking for the same answer.
