    Good Morning,

I've been reluctant to update the plugin because I have very minimal experience with working in the backend of my site. My fear is that I may experience the some of the same issues that others have and I wouldn't know how to recover.

At this stage, do you think it's safe to update the plugin?

I'm sorry I forgot to mention my version of the plugin is 1.9.13.

Grace - Although many users have experienced issues there are many more that are not having any concerns at all with updating to the more current and release versions of NextGEN Gallery.

It is also possible to "roll-back" your installation to your current version as well if you are not happy with the improvements made in the latest versions.

Please read this page first: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/how-to-rollback-a-version/ If you are comfortable with this process then please go ahead and update. If you are not comfortable with rolling-back you NextGEN Gallery version then that is fine, too.

We would much prefer you continue with an installation you are feeling safe with versus one that you are not.

Thanks for asking this and expressing your concerns!

    - Cais.

Thank you so much Cais. I've been so impressed with how you've handled the update and all the work the team has been doing behind the scenes to fix the issues that have cropped up. It was a large update and as far as I'm concerned there's no way you could've anticipated all the issues. You're all doing a remarkable job! Thank you

    Good Morning Cais,

I forgot to ask, if I updated the plugin and I found issues could I use a backup to revert?

Here are rollback instructions. Go one by one and you'll be fine.

    @DoubleSixx - Thanks!

@Grace - Yes, the option to roll-back is always available ... just in case.

    Good Morning,

I'm sorry I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, my hosting company backs up my site every other day, could I revert back to one of the saved backups without using the rollback (it's a little complicated for me).

Do you know how to access the backups ?

Can you verify you see a recent backup ?

Remember if the back is a month old anything recent well be lost.

Make sure you know the date of the most recent backup.

Honestly rolling back will be the easiest.

Otherwise you're restoring the entire database.

Rolling back ultimately will just be copying an older version over a new version.

If you're on GoDaddy there's a very simple way to revert to a previous version using history.

Recently my entire WordPress was deleted by GoDaddy, but using the history I restored my site. GoDaddy was kinda stumped as to what happened and surprised that I had a solution that worked using their software.

Trust me suddenly losing everything is a horrible feeling.

You take a huge risk if you skip steps.

Verify you can access a recent database. If you don't like the new version you can upload your current version over the new and you won't skip a beat.

Make sure you know your current NextGenGallery version.

Remember if you cut corners it might be difficult to help you afterwards. Could be time consuming but you'll have an easy solution to repair any mistakes.

    Good luck.
