[resolved] s3 upload hanging (17 posts)

    I have two brand new websites I am using UpdraftPlus Backup with. One is a main domain, the other is a subdomain off of that. I'm backing up to s3.

    When I installed them earlier this week they worked perfectly. Then I changed s3 buckets and backed up again. The subdomain works perfectly and appears to back up to s3 without issue.

    The main domain is hanging and appears to only have one file in the s3 bucket.

    It pauses with this message in the update location:

    S3 upload (US): /home/truology/public_html/trueresultsunleashed.com/wp-content/updraft/backup_2013-02-22-1430_Success_Coaching__True_Results_Unleashed__For_Executives_Business_Owners_amp_Professionals__16f8b2de775b-plugins.zip (chunks: 3) -> s3://unleashedbackups/backup_2013-02-22-1430_Success_Coaching__True_Results_Unleashed__For_Executives_Business_Owners_amp_Professionals__16f8b2de775b-plugins.zip (Feb 22 15:06:56)

    It's been this way for a long time now...though the time stamp updates each time I navigate away and then back to the control panel.

    Is this an issue with the size of my site? It's still new and doesn't have an excessive amount of content but it does have a larger number of plugins than the other site.

    I'm backing up to different s3 buckets now just to make sure. I even changed buckets and created a new one.

    Here's the last bit of my backuplog:

    Hi,

    You've truncated your backup log too early - the 'interesting' bits are missing. Please use pastebin.com and post the entire log.

    I ran it again overnight and it's still hanging at the same spot.

    Here is the full current log:

    The first lines of that log file are:

    0000.000 Opened log file at time: Fri, 22 Feb 2013 23:16:19 -0800
    0000.053 UpdraftPlus: 1.4.14 WordPress: 6258 PHP: 5.3.20 (Linux palmer.canvasdreams.com 2.6.32-220.7.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Mar 7 00:52:02 GMT 2012 x86_64) PHP Max Execution Time: 900 ZipArchive::addFile exists: Y
    0000.151 Tasks: Backup files: (schedule: daily) Backup DB: 1 (schedule: weekly)
    0000.192 Processed schedules. Tasks now: Backup files: Backup DB: 1
    0000.576 Backup run: resumption=0, nonce=3e54443ba92e, begun at=1361603779
    0000.706 Scheduling a resumption (1) in case this run gets aborted
    0000.873 This backup run is not intended for files - skipping

    Since that's a log file of a database backup (not files), it can't tell us anything about what happens when it tries to backup files...

    I've just reset everything to manual and am running the backup again, but the log file hasn't changed yet.

    What information do you need to troubleshoot? I'm not sure what else to provide.

    From which log file did you extract this?

    S3 upload (US): /home/truology/public_html/trueresultsunleashed.com/wp-content/updraft/backup_2013-02-22-1430_Success_Coaching__True_Results_Unleashed__For_Executives_Business_Owners_amp_Professionals__16f8b2de775b-plugins.zip (chunks: 3) -> s3://unleashedbackups/backup_2013-02-22-1430_Success_Coaching__True_Results_Unleashed__For_Executives_Business_Owners_amp_Professionals__16f8b2de775b-plugins.zip (Feb 22 15:06:56)

    I wanted to see the complete log file that that appears in. The one you posted to pastebin was a different one.

    I clicked the "download log file" link in your plugin control panel.

    I did notice the contents changed from the one I originally copied and the one I just copied. But it appears to have refreshed after a subsequent attempt to backup.

    Is there a way to retrieve that original log file? I am running a full backup now after putting the settings at "manual", but the log file hasn't changed yet.

    Is it worth chasing this old log file or is it better to see what the new log file shows? When will that complete?

    Thanks for your help, btw, I really like this plugin....if it will work for me.

    Yes, the link "Download log file" next to "Last backup" changes - every time there's a new backup attempted. To reach the log files for previous backups, click next to where it says "Download backups and logs:".

    Alright, here is the log for the full backup that is currently attempting to run but locked in the same place with this message currently displaying:

    S3 upload (US): /home/truology/public_html/trueresultsunleashed.com/wp-content/updraft/backup_2013-02-23-0751_Success_Coaching__True_Results_Unleashed__For_Executives_Business_Owners_amp_Professionals__29032532a857-plugins.zip (chunks: 3) -> s3://resultsbackup/backup_2013-02-23-0751_Success_Coaching__True_Results_Unleashed__For_Executives_Business_Owners_amp_Professionals__29032532a857-plugins.zip (Feb 23 08:32:39)

    Logfile: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=fn0wgmwK

    Here is the one that I ran last night and hung overnight: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=S2FvsFnV

    The one I ran just before that: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=8BC0C1Gc

    And another one earlier yesterday: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=BqV86s5Q

    Hopefully between them all that gives you enough content to look at. None of my backups yesterday were successful.

    Hi,

    Please upload a file with these contents into your web space, with a name ending in .php (e.g. test.php)

    <?php if (class_exists('SimpleXMLElement')) { echo 'Yes'; } else { echo 'No'; } ?>

    Then access it via your web browser (type in http://www.whateveryoursiteis.com/test.php)

    Then tell me what it outputs (if you ran it successfully, it will be Yes or No).

    OK. Red herring there, then.

    Can you access your PHP logs? The UpdraftPlus log shows that the PHP process suddenly dies, unexpectedly, when it tries to initiate an upload to Amazon S3.
    The difficult question is, where does it die? If you can find your PHP logs (ask your web hosting provider, if in doubt of where to look), then look for entries from the same time as your backup runs - really, look for anything with 'updraftplus' in the line.

    Alright, I will have to track that down and can't do so right now.

    Why would Updraft work just fine on my subdomain but not on the primary domain, though?

    It's the same server, same hosting account. Clearly I'm not an expert here but aren't they running from the same system?

    Is there any way we could modify the Updraft code to output the error log to a specific location?

    Use that resource, turn on WP_DEBUG_LOG as described, and then access the PHP log file in the location it mentions.

    Ok, I will have to come back to this later. I will update when I can.

    Thanks for your help.
