    Hi,

I'm having some trouble with my RSS Widgets on my blog (http://thaipo.byethost31.com/). I've tested multiple RSS feed URL's - here are some:

    http://feeds.feedburner.com/linuxquestions/latest
    http://secunia.com/information_partner/anonymous/o.rss
    http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/sportonline_uk_edition/football/rss.xml
    http://digg.com/rss/index.xml

None of them seem to be working.
I get: "An error has occured; the feed is probably down. Try again later."

I've tried reinstalling the widgets plugin and read many posts about this. I'm starting to think it might have to do with my host.

    Thanks in advance!

I think I've narrowed down my problem. I'm pretty sure it has to do with my server (settings/features). I've tried multiple RSS syndication scripts that are 'out-the-box' and unrelated to WordPress and I’m getting the same problems. So I guess my question is now - what kind of requirements and/or settings do I need? I’ve tried multiple free hosting services like:

    http://www.byethost.com/
    http://www.1111mb.com/
    http://www.110mb.com/index.php
    http://www.awardspace.com/

and they’re all having the same results. What am I missing?

They're all free hosts, that's the clue.

I tried running blogs on 110mb & awardspace, gave up, went to ANHosting for all of $60 and it's a revelation - you really have to do it.

The reason is simply down to the free hosts blocking certain server side actions which your plugins & widgets need to work - You can't use akismet on Awardspace for example.

I'm just testing out WP 2.1 & some new themes on awardspace as I still have my old account, and I can't edit the titles of the widgets for example - the dialog box is unclickable.

Go paid, you won't regret it - I've made enough in 3 weeks of 'paid posting' to cover 12 months hosting, so why not?
