RSS Reader does not work - need guidance (3 posts)

    Hello!
I have encountered a problem with my WP blog and I need to solve it. It concerns my RSS, which simply does not work. I'm using WP2.9 and it's worked until recently; I cannot guarantee that installing WP2.9 is also the point in time when RSS stopped working. I have uninstalled and re-installed all plugins one by one but this does not seem to be the real problem. I have checked in feedvalidator whether the rss is found, and indeed it is found, but their clues do not enlighten me, so I thought I might ask for guidance around here.
So my blog address is http://blog.joacadeamine.ro. Subscribing to rss is available in the 2nd column top search box and also in my http://wibiya.com toolbar at the bottom of the page.
The feedvalidator list of errors is http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http://blog.joacadeamine.ro

    Now:
I don't know what exactly is understood by:
(error 1) blank line before xml declaration - where should I look it up and how can I fix it?
(error 2) how can I change the media type of my feed?
(error 3) how can i revert from utf-8 to us-ascii?*

    * I must add that changing the enconding made me lost all diacritical marks in my blog, and therefore I have received help from my hosting provider by changing the enconding back to something that can read the diacritical marks.

I am no expert in WP, but I can follow guidelines. And I am motivated to get my RSS back (readers have been complaining). I should have thought about it when I stagnated at 163 readers one month ago, but it never occurred to me there was something wrong with the rss reader.

Thank you for your help & am looking forward to hearing from you!

Your feed's issues are due to the blank line at the top of the RSS results. That indicates that somewhere in your installation you have a file that has a new line before the opening <?php or after the final/closing `?> tags.

Check your wp-config.php first. If not there, check recently installed plugin files and/or theme files (especially functions.php).

    Hope that helps.

    Dear Chris:
I see the issues you were pointing to. I accessed my cPanel first and profanely tried to mend things up, which I did, to the result of identifying one extra line that was not necessary in one of the .php's. I forget which exctly at the moment. That and one plugin were fundamental in the feed's correct functioning. BUT - there's a great but that almost moves this help topic in another sphere: it only does so in Safari. (I don't know about Internet Explorer or Mozilla, I'll have to check on a PC, now I'm using my Mac). It does not work in Chrome. Surprisingly enough, since, I've just read a couple of days ago an anthem of the autodiscovery RSS button in the address bar of the Chrome browser. Now - having the Safari success you gave to me - and for which I was thankful - I moved on to friends' sites, only to discover their RSS is not working either. So now mine's working. I knew there was something wrong with it, because of the stagnating number of readers and because either in Safari or Chrome, it did not go. But, now, my friends' RSS works in Safari, and does not work in Chrome. That makes Chrome the issue now.
I have looked with my inexpert eye for signs of alarm triggered by other people, but could not find any. In fact, now that I know that my feed's working just fine (have used also the feed validator) - I don't care. I have checked the proportion of people who use Chrome in order to navigate in my site and they're a decent 10% as is for everyone I believe. Now before this becomes an issue, I am confident people in Google will take their time to make that wondrous autodiscovery RSS work before they gain some real market.

Well, that was a side story. The real story is that your indications helped me immensely and I got my RSS back - as are going to, I hope, all people browsing similar topics.

Thanks once again, and let's blog!
