• I’m thinking of getting a second site where I would display a blog. It wouldn’t be very large, and low bandwidth. But my usual host doesn’t include a database with its smaller packages.
I can still run PHP on the cheaper package, so I’ve been thinking about just using the RSS feeds, and then the database can be stored on my more expensive site.
I’m not going to bother with commenting, so that should keep it simple. The part I’m more wary about, is that I would like to upload files to the cheaper site. It shouldn’t be too difficult to make the uploads go to a seperate site, right?
Has anyone done something similar to this?

  • Wat do you mean by ‘uploads’ ?

You need mysql on the cheaper site to run wordpress. WordPress will not work without the requirements being satisfied. Just a note, to save you confusion later on.

Wouldn’t the feed reader need a database to store and retrieve information?

well if the domains are on the same server maybe u can access the database on the ‘expensive’ package on the ‘cheaper’ pack domain. most webhosts allow this…
i would rather use a rss feed reader and pickup entries from a blog rss feed and make it look like a blog without comments. though it would only work for the lastest 10 entries.
