• *This is my first WordPress site

I would like some guidence please…

My client wants a website where almost every page is static html, but they do want a page to show their blog and they want their home page to show some recent posts from their blog, but only the title and date of the posts.

I have installed wordpress in a folder called “Blog” and have no problem setting up and customizing that page.

    My question is:
How do i show recent posts on the home page if wordpress is installed in a subfolder “Blog”?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hi,

If WP is not generating the homepage, you’ll need to either manually put those links there, (which can be time-consuming), or write some code (javascript, php, ETC.), to grab the content from WordPress’s RSS feed.

    Hi Amanda!

Thank you for your quick response! Not sure whether to use word press to make the entire site or just the blog page and use your suggestion of pulling a RSS feed for the home page…

As I am still learning, if I were to use Word Press for the entire site, would I be able to make static html pages that would be able to use some Word Press data?

I have a lot of questions and I am willing to pay for a tutor. If you have any recommendations, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Not sure how technical you are, but you can interact with your WordPress installation through the XML-RPC API http://codex.wordpress.org/XML-RPC_WordPress_API – Without installing WordPress for your entire site.

    Thank you Andrew!

Do you know of any teaching resources that are more one on one?

What do you mean by teaching resources?

I am looking for a person that would be available to verbally help me with my questions about using WordPress. I learn quicker by verbal interaction…

I am an experienced coder/designer that would benefit from having someone walk me through a custom website setup (that I am currently building) using word press. I essentially would like to have a resource/person that would be available to answer “dumb” questions quickly and help me “get my feet wet”.

If all this sounds stupid, i apologize. I am just trying to quickly make a transition to WordPress as my future job(s) will depend on it.

    Thanks in advance!
