• I have a blog hosted on Y! hosting which does not support .htaccess as they don’t allow any special characters in filenames.
Recently, the RSS feeds started showing 500 error. Could anyone tell me how to fix this problem ?

    I tried both blog/feed and blog/?feed=rss2

I saw that .htaccess file is there in under Manage > Files
    But the .htaccess contains only

    # BEGIN WordPress

    # END WordPress

Currently, a Plugin called “Customizable Permalinks” is used to make the permalinks work.

  • I’m a bit confused. Y! may not support .htaccess, but you have a file which suggests they do. An empty file, but a file.

..htaccess rules may not properly support extended characters directly but that doesn’t mean you can’t use it.

500’s are almost always an .htaccess problem which implies that Y! does support it but somehow yours and your plugin have cross purposes. Some anti-spam plugin might be at fault if you use one. Double check that your plugins versions claim to work with your version of WordPress

The wordpress version is 2.0.2 , But I don’t see the version for download anywhere in the wp download archive.

.htaccess file I was talking about is not seen anywhere while seen through FTP, but you can see the file in
WP Admin > Manage > Files.

    Any help ?

Thank You ccoupe. After reading your post I checked my plugins and found out that a plugin was in fact the problem, it affected my rss feed files and wouldn’t let me subscribe or access them giving me the 500 error. I as well have yahoo webhosting. I would just deactivate a plugin one at a time to see which one could be causing the problems was the easiest way for me. Thanks Again.
