RSS Fails in Bloglines and Firefox “Sage” RSS Reader

    Hello, and thanks in advance. …

    I have looked various RSS solutions posted today and recently, but still I cannot get my RSS to work.

    This sure looks like it’s working:
    http://www.youthtopia.com/wp-rss2.php file

    When I type this (above) into my Firefox browser URL bar, an RSS-looking file does appear.

    But I can’t get anwhere from here. For example, if I drag the icon in the browser bar into the Feed Reader plugin in Firefox (called “Sage”) — that doesn’t work. (Other blogs work by simply dragging in the RSS link.).

    I’ve also tried to use Bloglines to subscribe to my own WordPress Blog — by entering
    http://www.youthtopia.com/wp-rss2.php file
    into the Bloglines subscribe box.

    Bloglines reports a problem and won’t subscribe me: it spits back the reply:
    “No feeds were found. Please verify that the website publishes an RSS feed.:

    It looks like you’re a victim of bug #903: http://mosquito.wordpress.org/view.php?id=903

    To fix it, go to the following link and replace your wp-blog-header.php file with the one from there.

    Thanks, macmanx. … I think I could be victim of but # 904 …

    I changed files per your instructions (wp-blog-header.php) and something went awry. Instead of the RSS file, I’m getting this error message:

    In wp-blog-header.php, get rid of the blank line after <?php .

    The error is related to an extra space or line somewhere in that file. Best option is to download wp-blog-header.php directly (instead of copying and pasting or saving the plain text version, which it appears you’ve done):

    Hm, well so much for the easy solution ^_- . We’ll have to go the slightly more difficult path.

    Hi … yes, I had copied and pasted.

    But I just downloaded this and then replaced it: got the very same error message:

    Alright then. Here’s what we’re going to do (the slightly more difficult path).

    Go here: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/cafelog/wordpress/wp-blog-header.php?rev=1.131&view=markup

    Right-click “download”, select “Save link as” or “download file” (depending on your browser).

    Make sure to save the file as wp-blog-header.php

    Delete the wp-blog-header.php file from your server.

    Upload the new wp-blog-header.php file.

    Hope that works!

    I’m not seeing an error msg in FF 1.0.2. I’m seeing the XML output of the feed…. did you clear your cache and hard refresh after you uploaded the changed file?

    Voila! … Beautiful! … it now works in Firefox (Sage Reader) and also in Bloglines! …

    If I would have tried to solve that myself, it would have been like the 100 monkeys on typewriters trying to write like Shakespeare.

    You guys (and gals) are just amazing. … That’s the sixth question I ‘ve asked here, and the replies have solved the problem — and fast.

    I’m a full-time student, but I think it’s time to dip into that cholcolate soy milk budget and make a donation here. (It will take a few days to move cash into my PayPal account.)
