I'm running MAMP and started getting some issues while trying to add new plugins locally and also am seeing the following in the dashboard:

    WordPress Blog
RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Failed to connect to 72.233.56.139: Cannot allocate memory

    Other WordPress News
RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Failed to connect to 72.233.56.139: Cannot allocate memory

I fixed the error when trying to add plugins by adding the following to my HOSTS file:

    72.233.56.139 api.wordpress.org

This didn't fix the dashboard issues.

I don't know if it's related but I also had noticed when doing some coding earlier today that if I tried to use wp_remote_head that I was getting a 428 wp_error with a similar "Cannot allocate memory" value. I was using this to verify access to the Google hosted jquery library. If it fails I register the local WP version. I still get the error locally but not on my hosted server.

    Thoughts?
