Route to payment page and back? (4 posts)

    Hi there,

So excited about this plugin. I'm just setting it up and reading through the support forum. I haven't seen my questions yet, but please forgive any duplication.

I need to have the ability for users to subscribe to an online magazine and/or join the parent association. I'd like to use the same form for both, but route the submit action to our payment page. From there the user can select which option he/she wants. I'd like the users to select the option, pay, and then route back to the thank you message from the plugin.

    So my questions are:
    1. Can I add a radio button choice on the template that says "Subscribe" or "Join" that would be carried through to the database?

    2. Is there a particular CDN I should use and how do I route to it from Submit?

    3. I'm assuming that once someone has paid, I can route them back to your thank you page. If not, is it necessary to return to the thank you page in order to have the user added to the database, or can I just go from the payment site to the payment site's thank you page and be done?

Thanks very much for your help.

    Diana

    Hi Diana,

OK I've done this a couple of ways, and it is tricky, and an advanced application. Interfacing with payment portals will require solid skills in both PHP and Javascript. If you're game, I would be happy to give you a few hints to get you started.

OR, you can just put a payment button on your thanks page and use the honor system. You'll know if someone signs up and should pay for something but doesn't. It will require that you manually cross-reference and authorize each purchase...but you won't have to do any programming, really. If you have low volume, and don't need instant validation of purchases, this can be a practical solution.

Do you think I could just route the user out to PayPal for the fee and bounce them back to my site to download the file the user just purchased?

Yes, you can do that, but unless you are processing the "PDT" values that PayPal sends when returning a purchaser to the site, you have no way of knowing if they paid or not. Basically, anybody who goes to that download page will be able to download the file.
