Ditty News Ticker
[resolved] 'Rotate' not working - "ReferenceError: widget is not defined" (14 posts)

    Hi Joe

    I'm a longterm happy user of your News Ticker - the smooth-scrolling text looks great, even on a busy site. :-)

    But I just noticed that ROTATE mode is no longer animating, whilst switching to SCROLL works OK (this is in Chrome and IE). Seeing as no one else is reporting this, I guess it's a clash with another of my plugins - is it something you can help with, please ?

    I see this error in the browser console -

    ReferenceError: widget is not defined

    1122  before_change : function( $ticker ) {
    1123  3516-widget					},
    1124  after_change : function( $ticker ) {
    1125  3516-widget					}

    Any clues as to what might be the problem ?

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    I'm not sure what the issue is... please run through this faq http://metaphorcreations.ticksy.com/faq/1483 to find out which plugin is conflicting (if there is one). Also, please post a link to your site and I'll take a look at it as well. But, please run through the plugin check first to narrow down the issue.

    Hi Joe

    Thanks for your quick reply.

    To be honest it's a bit tricky to disable all plugins and swap themes cos my site is live and getting regular visitors. (Plus, the last time I did this some time back, I remember that a couple of plugins actually forgot their settings, and it took me a while to fix !)

    I'll leave it for now, and if someone else sees similar then maybe they can jump in with some extra info.

    Ok, I understand your situation. That process would be the first step to take, though, to start problem solving this issue. Otherwise, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. If you have time, you could backup your site and install it on a test server to test this.

    I tried this plugin on WP3.8.1 and I get the same error as @photoMaldives in the JS console:

    ReferenceError: widget is not defined
    6771-widget

    That happens both on rotate and scroll ticker modes.

    So nothing is shown in the ticker.
    It works fine just in list mode (with no js needed for list..)

    Same issue, not sure with which update but ditty is no longer rotating, no matter if I set it to auto or not, it wont even work when using navigation arrows.

    Example would be http://www.apexfire.ie, on the home page Ditty is being used for 'What Our Customers Say' section.

    Any suggestions?

    I'm pretty sure I just fixed this issue. Thanks for the link to your site Kramarz. Please check for the 1.4.3 update, it should be showing up soon in your dashboard. Let me know if you still have any issues.

    I have updated to version 1.4.3, but the rotation does still not work.

    There is a test installation at

    If you want the rotator to auto rotate you need to Enable the Auto rotate in the Rotate Settings. Otherwise you need to enable one of the navigation settings to allow users to manually rotate through ticks.

    Brilliant, Joe - thanks for the quick fix. :-)

    All looks normal on my site again - ROTATE mode working and no signs of the JS error in the console.

    You're welcome. Thanks for letting me know of the error. For some reason the js error wasn't causing issues on my site.
