[resolved] Right Hand Panel Dropped to Bottom (28 posts)

    Hi All,
I've noticed that my RH panel has dropped to continue to be aligned with my first post - even though there are now 8 or 9 posts.
So this makes it difficult for a new contributor to immediately find the registration link.
Can anyone advise how I can make the RH panel float to the top and stay there?

    many thanks,
    Gerry D-R

I am not sure what you mean by "has dropped to continue to be aligned with my first post" but look at the HTML-Code in your posts. I have (had) the same problem after putting a YouTube-File in a post - the complete right-hand-panel disappeared in some browsers when this post was on the same page.

But maybe you can give out a demo-link to the site/page (or maybe screenshot) to see, what happens.

EDIT: your background-image is also missing!

    Hi fht
What I mean is that you have to scroll all the way down to get to the links panel on the right hand side. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the html in the posts. If you'd care to have a look the site is: http://www.sedonafriendsdownunder.com

EDIT: I didn't know I had a background image! What is that?

    See the validation:
    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A//www.sedonafriendsdownunder.com/
(and make a habit to validate when something goes wrong)
Add the missing closing div tag and you should be fine.

Sorry guys. Have tried everything I think you are telling me and still not getting anywhere.
    very frustrating!
Inserted closing div tag - nothing.
Anything else you can think of?

    I'd really appreciate it!

    Hi Guys!
Well I fiddled about until I 'passed validation'.
But the problem is not yet solved. You still have to cursor all the way to the bottom of the index page to get to the right hand panel.
Plus the header is slightly off centre.

    Any clues?

    Thanks for your interest.

    Hi again, Guys
Still having problems getting my right hand panel back to the top of the page.
Tried substituting some other themes but still same problem. Also the Header for the Kubrick theme is slightly off center.
NB If I go to the 'About' page, the header is fine And the right hand panel is also in the correct place.

    Any ideas anyone?

change it to a theme where the sidebar is present on the single pages. If you do that, I will take a look further. Kubrick is a bitch to troubleshoot for that sort of stuff because the sidebar isnt shown in single page view.

For one thing, turn OFF the RTE. I just had to fix a guy's 12 blog post's the other week, because he was copy/pasting from a MS WORD or some type of word processor..

    http://www.vindictivebastard.net/images2/turnoff-rte.gif

And yes, his blog looked exactly the same way.. After I went through and looked at his posts..in under: Manage => Posts in the Blog's Control panel..

He had mile long URLs to crap, Extra added <DIV>S and no ENDING </DIV> tags. Remove the Crap Code first! If you're going to use a word Processor of some sort.. copy/paste from that, to NotePad2 first!

Let me know how what I suggested, works ok? ;)

uh, spencer, that site validates. Mind you that doesnt mean that there isnt a div issue or a rte, however..

Yeah, If I remember right..that guy's blog I fixed, was passing validation too. =/ I remember, cause it's the first thing I checked for.. thought it was weird myself.. but, his posts were screwing things up for him.. ;)

Notice the 0.P.'s first two articles, I think it is.. they don't look/appear to be a normal added article.. looks more like a copy/paste job. =P I dunno though.. might just be hidden lengthy URLs too.. hard to say.. =/

Hmm..It's hard to say, just figured I'd drop in my 2 cents, that I'll need to spend tomorrow anyway..haha. I'm off to bed now..later my fellow peeps! =) =P If you're still doing here whoo, have funnzies..hahaha! =)

Wow.. I've been having the same problem for a week now and I cant seem to get mine corrected either. Mine started when I added pictures to my posts. I did read the error page, but I guess I'm too dumb to fix it. Any advice please?

what is the complete url to your blog? You know it so why make ppl search your site in order to help you??

    sigh >:-(

(ill wait 10 mins for a reply then im chalking this up as a spam attempt since I see nothing that resembles a blog on your site, nor do I see any "latest news". Someone else can deal with you maybe..)

Well, "we/mods" can always delete it if need be. ;) And, if he's a legit user.. and reposts back, the mods can always un-delete it as well.. ;) I guess we can give it a little bit of time.. maybe..

    spencerp

I dunno though, I'm starting to smell crap though.. *sniff sniff*.. does it smell like crap to you too?

I have been trying to fix this problem for an hour now with no luck. Thats why I have not been back here. I will hang out a while and if I get no response I'm going to bed. Its 2:23 AM here and I'm getting tired. If I'm gone, please dont delete this as I am sincere. Dumb, but sincere.

your troubles are with your first post -- if I delete it, the sidebar is fine.

It is painfully clear that you did not write that post into the editor. Do NOT copy and paste out of word documents.

    whooami,
The first post being the one at the top labeled "Harley Trikes", or the first post being the first one ever posted being " Motor Trike"?

Thanks for your help and patience! I think I`m gonna let my 20 year old son handle my computer issues in the future!

harley trikes, its clearly a paste from word .. the line dividers give it away..

Do I need to just delete it and re-do it? Also can I save it and edit it in wordpress, then repost it? What do you suggest?

I would (but thats me). Copy it back into something so you can read it.. and WRITE it into the text box :)

I read something on here from someone regarding pasting it _back_ into notepad (maybe, it was), and saving it, then being able to repaste from notepad back to the site. It might have been notepad, it might have not, I honestly dont remember since I dont ever have this problem to take note of the "fixes". The point was, anyway, that that particular application removed all of word's f'ed up formatting issues.

Me? I would just write it .. or you can try the notepad trick :) it wont hurt :)

    whooami,

Thanks for your help. Thats what I will do then.

Do you think reposting the same pictures will cause a problem? I read on another post that it can cause a problem if they are too big.

i dont think the pictures are too (wide) large -- you can do this though, add one, check the site, add some more, check again.. You can ALWAYS go back and edit the post :)

What you need to be aware of with images is that theyre not so wide that they exceed width of that larger column. Its a smidge trickier with ie, since it handles padding and margins differently than firefox. That said, I think that column is 450 px wide (im trying to remember from the last time I looked, Ive never used kubrick). If you stick to widths that dont exceed 400 px wide, you **should** be safe.
