Hello!
I own a small selfhosted website running wordpress since a couple of years now. The number of visitors is usually pretty low and I just recently started posting again. However there have been several times when my Statpress showed a fairly small amount of visitors in contrast to ridiculously many pageviews, just like today (21 visitors <-> over 1800 pageviews).
Is this to be considered alarming in any form? Are those bots or some kind of hacking attempts?

Probably bots like Google scanning harmlessly. Your stat tool should know to omit those.

I thought those search engine bots were listed under Spiders (of those I had 33 today)? Or are we talking about two different things?
It just appears weird to me that for weeks the number of pageviews stays stable and then it suddenly shoots through the roof.
Some are, some aren't. If you knew what pages were being hit for page views, though, you'd have a better idea.

Well, the last few listed were:
cmd=setquality&var1=1%27.passt...
/notallowed.htm
Usually not posts, tags, images or suchlike.
Ugh. Not bots, script kiddies. If your server has some sort of firewall (I use CSF) then you can try that to block them.

I was afraid of that. Okay then, thank you for your help!
FWIW, if your install is secure and your host is as well, you should be okay.
