Support » Plugin: WordPress Beta Tester » Revert to WordPress 3.9 from 4.0-alpha

I used WordPress Beta Tester to be able to work on WordPress 3.9-beta and on to RC1 and RC2. It makes the testing of the beta versions much easier. With an installation on XAMPP, it also helped with checking safely, whether I would have problems with any plug-ins, especially with TinyMCE Advanced.

Unfortunately I was overtaken by events and my last update was the morning after 3.9 had been released and I found WordPress 4.0-alpha running. In fact it runs well and all the TinyMCE issues disappeared too. Hence no worries to update to 3.9 on my sites.

I would like to return to 3.9 on my XAMPP installation, and have deactivated WordPress Beta Tester. Can anybody advise, if it is possible to go back to 3.9 without having database or other issues?

I have run WordPress 4.0-alpha since it was installed mostly without any issues until now. Today the Media Library stopped functioning and I could not see any image files, although if I selected audio, then audio files showed up. I have been working with SVG, which requires changes to my functions.php and .htaccess to be able to upload files and use on pages. After spending much time searching and trying further changes to functions.php and .htaccess I gave up and decided to go back to WP 3.9.1. I was able to answer my own question above about how to do this: after backing up go to the version.php in wp-includes and change it to 3.9. On refreshing the Dashboard Updates it will offer to ‘update’ to WP 3.9.1! Done! Now my Media Library is working normally.

Sorry for the double post. Why does this forum not remove the draft of the post after posting? This often happens and you presume it was not posted.

I’m having issues with 4.0 too, looking for a way to revert back. If anyone knows, it would be great to know, thanks!

My method worked because version 4.0 was still in beta and I backed up to version 3.9 in the version.php file. If you do that now it will just offer 4.0 again.

What is you problem with 4.0?

backup wp-config.php – plugins and themes

    – Delete everything
    – upload wp 3.9
    – upload plugins and themes
    – upload wp-config

Possible if changes to .htaccess will be a good idea to backup also
