[resolved] Restricting which cats and pages a user sees on dashboard (7 posts)

    Hi

I've done a search for a plugin that does this but I think I'm putting in the wrong keywords because nothing does QUITE what I'm looking for. <grin>

Basically, I'm using the wp based user roles, and on the whole I'm happy with what they allow/disallow. However, I want to restrict:

    a) the categories that a user can specifically write to (so user 1 can only see category 1, and that is their default cat as well)

    b) the user can edit one page from the dashboard. (it's a kind of extended "about me" page that is displayed on the public site).

I need it to be for a user that is either at author or contributor level (there's still discussion amongst the admin group as to whether the user should be able to publish their content straight away.)

Oh, and if a user is a contributor, does the admin get an email saying they've written something? (I can't remember, sorry..)

Thanks for reading! Hope someone can help...?

    Hey Nicky :)

I don't know of a plugin that can do what you're after, but it sounds like you're trying to do two things anyway, so maybe two plugins would be needed...

    I'll email you ;)

hi...i'm looking for a version of the same question...or at least part one.

except i'm looking to have a user be able to only read one category:

    a) the categories that a user can specifically READ AND COMMENT to (so user 1 can only see category X, and that is their default cat as well)

i am using role manager and disclose-secret plugins together to achieve nice category management as other posts suggested.

Hi I think I've sorted myself out now. I'm using the role manager (created a custom role) and now I'm just working out why the user-cats_manager plugin dashboard page won't display anything.

Role manager + Role Scoper = sorted.

user-cats_manager currently has a bug that will display a 404 error on category pages to users that are logged out.
