restore wp_users from backup (2 posts)

I lost my all content when upgrading from 2.8.1 to 2.8.2. I restored the postings using a backup xml file which worked fine, but it didn't restore the users login data. I have a backup of the old database, and I tried to restore the wp_users and wp_usermeta using phpmyadmin. It seemed to work ok and if I look at the wp_users in phpmyadmin all the users are there. However in wordpress control panel, it still only has the admin user. I know virtually nothing about databases or sql - any advice on how to get my users back ?

If the backup database is from 2.8.1, I would suggest going back to that version of WP, then import the backup, then upgrade again.
