• Hi all,

This is an isssue of disaster recovery. A server went down for a while and mysql had to be reinstalled. There are no .sql files to restore from but only the data files for the wordpress blog.

Is it possible to restore the blog by copying the data files to the new data files folder? I tried simply copying and restarting the server but no luck there… I think the actual blogs data is stored elsewhere – is it in an .idb file?

Any tips on how to get the blog data much appreciated… all i can think of now is using googles cache to copy and paste all of the blog entries to a new install but this will be a nightmare as there are 30,000 words, images and more, plus a custom theme etc.

  • I don’t know what “data files” are.
All the content (posts, Pages, comments and settings) are stored in the mysql database. If you don’t have a backup of it and neither has your host… I am afraid everything is lost.

I’m trying to do something similar. How exactly do I restore the backup database so that my blog will shop up again? I imported it from my desktop into the MySQL database program but nothing has changed. Do I need to use ftp to put it in the WordPress folder?

I really need to fix this tonight. Thanks ahead of time for any help.
