[resolved] Resizing original images as they are uploaded (5 posts)

I can't see how to do this in the WordPress core so I guess I will need a plugin. The best I have found so far is Imsanity but it limits me to setting a single maximum width and height for uploaded images, so portrait and landscape oriented images end up with different resolutions.

For example, I might set the max width x height to 800x600 and then upload a 1600x1200 image. The image is resized to 800x600 and stored.

I then upload a 1200x1600 image, which is resized to 450x600 and stored. But I want it to be stored as 600x800.

Is there an image resizing plugin out there that lets me specify max width/height for portrait and landscape oriented images independently?

    Thanks.

Hey davejuk, if you put in max width x height as 800 x 800 you will get the results you are looking for.

    Where do you mean?

It doesn't work in Imsanity and I can't see any maximum image size in the WordPress core.

I'm talking about Imsanity settings. The reason it wasn't working for you is that you set the height/width to different values - which were only were appropriate for landscape photos.

Set the max height and width limits all the same (800px in your case). That will scale the images down exactly the way you wanted according to your example.

This forum is for help with Imsanity so if you are looking for other plugins you will have more luck asking in the main WordPress forum where more people can help you.

OK I understand - thank you, that is exactly what I was needed. I'm glad it was such a simple solution!
