Resize Issue – possibly GIF's in archive list

I’ve used the regenerate thumbnails option to create thumbnails for my theme – (child of responsive). It would seem that those that are GIF images are being displayed at full size in the archive lists and the thumbnails are being ignored.

Any help would be appreciated.
