   Can some kind person out there upgrade my sidebar so it can function with widgets? i am just lost. thanks

   The directions for widgetizing a sidebar a relatively simple.
   http://automattic.com/code/widgets/themes/
   If your using a more popular theme then you can probably find a widgetized version of your theme with google.
