[Request] Template for wp-login.php and profile.php (10 posts)

I'm aware that probably nobody will pay attention to this thread, like it happened the last time I requested this.

I integrated wp-login.php and profile.php in my custom theme. That it's to say, I load my custom theme css file, header, footer, sidebar...

To do this, I had to change the code of wp-login.php and profile.php. It is not difficult to do, but each wp upgrade is a pain. Even more painful in 2.5 because profile-update.php disappeared and there was a call for user-edit.php there.

I can't believe that a bunch of new useless features are being impleted for 2.6 when 5 years later there is still no template for a simple login page and a profile page.

BTW, a step forward would be a blog software with an integrated forum, you already have the blog, you already have the forum -bbpress- and you already know how to integrate both of them. Why not to release the whole package once for all?

Because thats not a step forward. Thats a step backwards. They dont include a whole lot of plugins either. Why? Because we dont all want the same plugins, just like we don't all want a forum.

Thanks but no thanks. The devs have a hard enough time keeping up with the 500+ files that take up WordPress without worrying about bbpress on top of that. You want a forum, great, install it.

I can't believe that a bunch of new useless features ...

Opinions are like, well you know.

PS: you didnt get a reply, or you didnt get a reply from who you wanted to get a reply from because these forums arent browsed regularly by the devs. Thats what THIS:

    is for.

A blog with forum is a step backwards? Well, let's go forward with all the gravatars stuff, password strength... there are no plugins for that.

Because we dont all want the same plugins, just like we don't all want a forum.

And what's the problem? it could be a package with forum and a package with no forum.

You want a forum, great, install it.

I already installed and had to remove it because it is a pain to update wordpress just to check that bbpress stopped working and realize that you have to remake all the integratation you did.

I already requested there and in every place I could, but this is JUST A REQUEST THAT A WP USER DID, not a threat, not a warning, not a demand, just A REQUEST. If you don't like my requests, well, you know.

    not a threat..

Trust me when I say I dont feel threatened -- your request has about a .000001% chance of ever being implemented. Mostly because the devs understand the differences between the 2 packages and the practical implications of combining them -- be it on the developer side, the support side, or the enduser side.

The implementation of gravatars was a no-brainer code-wise.

The password changes were long overdue, and in response to a serious flaw that had been present in every version of WP up to the change. And no, there wasnt a plugin that would fix that particular issue.

Despite the fact that sooner or later bbpress will be implemented as wordpress plugin, I'm not really interested in the chances.

I opened this thread just to recall some OLD REQUESTS, and it is addressed to developers. They will attend them or not, that's ok, I'm only requesting.

But all these have nothing to do with this thread topic. A template for a wp-login.php or for profile.php is no-brainer code-wise.

Integrating bbpress and wordpress is already implemented, you only need one more step to put them together and then you avoid to load wordpress functions, headers, footers... twice whenever you run the forum.

Actually, I'm not requesting new implementations, just to put the whole thing together.

And no-one will have much to say over that.

But all these have nothing to do with this thread topic.

You are the one who brought those up. Scroll up, and read your own reply.

It is? Then why havent you written one? (rhetorical question)

Then why havent you written one?

I did write one and it is already working, as I stated before.

Next time I ask in this forum I'll ask if you finished the batteries of your device.

"I want everything included with wordpress that I could possibly ever need, But I need it ALL to work 100% of the time"

Hell wordpress has some huge pitfalls. But these are only pitfalls for me because I am using it as a CMS and am therefore pushing the balloon in one specific direction.

I do not like the way wordpress is heading, but it seems to have the best intentions. I started using wordpress because it was a fantastic base for my sites. I wanted a forum, I wanted a shop, but these are my needs.

WordPress could easily include a lot more, but then it wouldnt be generally good, it would be specifically good. I could understand that when you are selling a product, but not when its free.

All my sites use wordpress. The sites that need a forum either use a forum plugin, or a separate forum. The sites that need a shop have a separate shop. This way if my wordpress messes up I dont lose everything and can then fix it locally with more ease.

If you want something that odes everything, pay for it.

    Have a nice day :-D
