It would be really cool to have a tab on the dashboard that takes you right to image upload. Right now the only place to upload images is from the 'write' page.
There are other times I like to upload for say, sidebar images, blogroll images, etc. Maybe it's overkill but hey, why not?
Or maybe even a link on the blogroll/add links place to upload an image while you're there.
Just some thoughts.

For me, the logical place for theme related images would be the wp-content/themes/my-theme/images folder...
If I want to use the same theme on another WP installation, then everything is in one place, I don't have to search endlessly the upload folders/subfolders.

I'm not sure how that pertains. I'm talking about a link to the image uploader. So I don't have to go into a write page in order to upload a photo that will be used in m blogroll/links. The images can still be stored in the same place. The access from wordpress.org is just in multiple places.
